Mia Pitillo: La Feminite
As a designer, I am fascinated by how the world views the idea of beauty. I believe that this is most present in gender roles. The ideas and characteristics of gender are not innate, but socially constructed. Women have begun to challenge these traditional roles as early as the feminist movement of the 1960’s. This collection will not focus on the rebellion, but rather the sophisticated and more subtle side when women first began dressing in traditional menswear. This collection uses 1940’s and 1960’s menswear pieces combined with feminine elements and details. The overall pieces will be ready-to-wear, but will feature couture detailing. As a whole, this collection focuses on the constant strive for unattainable beauty.
