Lily O’Brien: It’s Not All About Me, but It Should Be
“It’s Not All About Me, but It Should Be” is inspired by the concepts originated within the Aesthetic Movement. The Aesthetic Movement was a late nineteenth century movement that championed pure beauty and ‘art for art’s sake’ emphasizing the visual and sensual qualities of art and design over practical, moral or narrative considerations. This movement inspired the Art Nouveau style as well as the popularization of Decorative Arts. While the inspiration used throughout the Aesthetic Movement varied artist-to-artist, reoccurring themes of romantic imagery, opulence, and high detail prevailed throughout. Nature, surreality, and love are what inspire the aesthetics and beauty of “It’s Not All About Me, But It Should Be”. Influences of the Aesthetic Movement can be found in both concept and in the detailed designs and fabrications of the collection.
