Kate Ergenzinger: Hayes House

My collection is rooted in my relationship with my grandmother, Anne Hayes Tate, and the ways her values have shaped my own choices, interests, and perspective as a designer. She lived a life centered around what mattered most to her, including her family, her close friends, and a sense of curiosity fostered through the garden in her backyard. That same backyard, where she grew up and where many of my own childhood memories were formed, continues to be a place of connection and inspiration for me.
Through my own design lens, this collection reflects what mattered most to her while also showing how those values continue to influence the way I design. It brings together her influence and my personal perspective, translating shared ideas of care, observation, and intention into textiles through pattern, color, and texture, with painting playing a key role in developing imagery and visual storytelling within the designs. In this way, the collection honors where I come from while remaining deeply personal to who I am and the way I approach design.
