Grace Rakauskas: Pieced

Pieced is an exploration in incorporating care and love into clothing. Too often our belongings are taken for granted – creating vast amounts of waste. The textile industry is one of the top polluters in the world, and fast fashion is largely to blame. Pieced takes the viewer back to a simpler time when clothes were hand made, and people mended their things instead of throwing them away. My goal is to create a fashion forward capsule wardrobe – an all-inclusive collection that can cover all of the wearer’s needs. Pieced focuses on quality over quantity, with motifs and details seen in many traditional quilts – the epitome of infusing care and love into the creation of an every day object.
