Emma McDaniels: Spectacle
“Spectacle” is a collection designed for an audience. Based largely on Halloween costumes of the 1920s, each individual represents a different character. The literal inspiration of a subject is a different process than that of the subjective, toeing the line between being obviously recognizable and looking heavy handed. My passions as a designer revolve around detailwork, and through costume you can explore dimensions of construction and embellishment too unwieldy for everyday life. The overall theme of my collection is based on fun. Designing costumes is fun. Making a fish suit is fun. And hopefully, seeing it come down the runway will be fun for everyone else too. I decided to pursue fashion after working on theatre shows in high school, and now I’m finishing my college degree with costumes.
