Catherine Leavitt: A Call to the World
My collection is inspired by pop culture and its influences, specifically pop art and music. I have been intrigued by music created over the last 50 years and the social issues that are echoed in the music. I found that many of the same concerns expressed through music 50 years ago are the same concerns inspiring music today. I wanted to bring this to light using pop art themes inspired by the likes of Andy Warhol and the way he was able to bring the mundane into light and calling attention to it. I want to bring these ideas together and create textiles that are pop art in style and to make a statement about how little has changed in terms of social issues expressed by society.
