Ariel Roman: Electrorock
Electrorock is a collection with 80’s rock and its cultural influences that pushes the boundaries on what is considered streetwear and blurs the line between costume and everyday wear. It is based on the quote from a maturing Carrie Bradshaw, a character from hit TV show Sex and the City, in 1985 when she comes to the realization that there are no rules on what you can and can’t wear, and no one is required to dress a certain way just because people stare. New York is the city of dreams where individuality is appreciated, and people coming from small towns are finally able to express their repressed creativity and passions through their clothing. Electrorock brings the elements of iconic 1980’s music video and concert looks to the modern city streets with leather jackets, studs, chains, and shoulder pads. The contrasting colors and bold surface design elements show the growth an individual experiences when they realize they can dress however they want, even if it is like a Rockstar.
