Anna Philomena: Merrymakers

Merrymakers is an ode to a child’s unrestrained imagination interlacing with the realities of adulthood.  It takes influence from John Bauer and Elsa Beskow’s Swedish folktales, illustrated with knights, trolls, and fanciful creatures derived from the woodlands.  With a playful perspective, it demonstrates fashion’s role as a form of every day dress up.  It challenges the idea of what proper maturity looks like, while wavering between themes of the fantastic and the serious, between eccentricity and sophistication.  It is a statement of philosophy that even as adults, the childlike spirit in its embraced craziness should not be stifled, but rather sought after.
