Joanna Gulley: Eighteen Thirty

Eighteen Thirty is a home-textile showroom that displays renditions of memories I accrued during my childhood living at street number 1830 on two acres of woods in Lobelia, North Carolina. Eighteen Thirty combines form and function to create a vivacious and inviting living space evocative of the spontaneity and grandeur inside the mind of a young girl who lives in the safety of blissful unawareness with a fondness for kittens. Eighteen Thirty is designed to be a room that is an immersive experience of visual storytelling which transports the viewer into the imagination of my early life. By using a plethora of textile design techniques that I’ve learned during my time as an undergraduate student, Eighteen Thirty is a complex intermingling of skill and creativity.
