Grace Porterfield: Something Old, Something New

My collection, Something Old, Something New, draws inspiration from the Victorian proverb: “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe,” symbolizing blessings and good fortune for the bride on her wedding day. I reinterpret this tradition for the modern bride through a collection of textiles designed for the bridal dressing room. Each piece blends Victorian design elements with contemporary styles, crafting a space filled with joy and blessings.
Something Old, Something New weaves Christian themes into its design, reflecting the sacred covenant of marriage. During the Victorian era, weddings were deeply religious, invoking God’s blessings upon the couple. This collection invites the bride to reflect as she prepares, with each handcrafted piece embodying the essence of the proverb. By intertwining tradition, faith, and intricate design, this space offers a modern yet meaningful interpretation of the bridal dressing room, honoring both the Victorian era and Christian symbolism.
