Aleena Thomas: Whatever is Lovely

For this collection, my intention was to combine a design theme that focuses on Biblical metaphors involving water and an aesthetic theme of bohemian/Indo-Western embellishment. The fluidity of the garment silhouettes and fabric textures references the dynamic nature of water. Water is repeatedly used to depict stories of transformation, such as baptism, water into wine, and the woman at the well. Early adulthood is marked by constant transformation and the need to embrace one’s authentic self. Many of the collection materials feature Indian embroidery and beading to enhance the boldness of the garments and draw back to my cultural upbringing. This collection features a wide variety of garment types, including casual wear, semi-formal dresses, and formal attire, to appeal to the multifaceted experience of the wearer and their desire to reflect bold personal style on all occasions.
